Apex Court dismisses demand for postponement of NEET, JEE examinations
The Supreme Court rejected the demand to postpone NEET, JEE examinations. NEET is conducted for admission to medical courses and JEE for registration in engineering courses.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the petition to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). NEET is conducted for admission to medical courses and JEE for registration in engineering courses.
A bench of Justices Arun Kumar Mishra, BR Gogoi and Krishna Murari dismissed the plea saying that everything in the country cannot be stopped due to Coronavirus. Justice Mishra questioned; should everything in the country be stopped?’ This would ruin (children’s) precious year.’
The bench said that it had taken into consideration the pleas of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and said that NEET and JEE examinations would be conducted with taking precautionary measures.
The proposed JEE Main and NEET examination were appealed to be postponed scheduled to be held in September in view of the growing epidemic of Covid-19 epidemic. 11 students from 11 states had filed a petition to the Supreme Court to postpone the JEE Main and NEET exams in view of the rapidly increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the country.
