New Delhi: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has opposed to conducting the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and NEET for admission to engineering and medical institutes in the country. The opposition has come in view of the risk of Covid. The party demanded to postpone it.
Earlier, the Congress had also made this demand and NSUI students had staged a protest against conducting the exams. A statement released here today by the CPI (M) Politbureau said that it is not appropriate to conduct these exams offline in a situation where the Coronavirus is spreading across the country and the number of deaths is increasing.
The statement said that the purpose of conducting the exams can be understood. it is good to take care of the future of the students, but given the current situation in the country, it would be an unnecessary and ignorant step.
The statement reads the lives of more than 10 lakh youth of the country will be put at risk by conducting the examination at this situation. The party, therefore, urged the government to postpone the test until the Covid is brought under control and subsequently conducted.
Meanwhile, the admit cards of NEET 9,94,198 and JEE 7,49,408 have been downloaded.
