23 members of Punjab Assembly test Coronavirus positive ahead of monsoon session
In the state of Punjab 14 members of the assembly have been found to be Corona positive, including 3 ministers of the ruling Congress, 3 members of AAP and 6 members of SAD
Chandigarh: The one-day monsoon session of the 117-member Punjab Assembly will be held on Friday. However, 23 members of the ruling and opposition parties have already been tested Coronavirus positive.
Those who tested positive include 14 MLAs, of which three are from the ruling Congress, three from the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and six are from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Another minister, Tirupati Rajendra Singh Bajwa, has recovered after testing positive.
It has been made mandatory for all members, officials, Assembly staff and media-persons coming for coverage to undergo a Covid screening to attend the state assembly session. Social distance has saught to be ensured for the members to sit in the assembly.
In addition, masks and sanitizers have been arranged for all the above attendees. For media coverage, arrangements have been made to telecast the proceedings of the House at Punjab Bhavan.
A meeting of Aam Aadmi (AAP) and Akali Dal (SD) was conducted on Wednesday, in which Covid positives were also present. In such a situation, according to the protocols of the Department of Health, members of the Legislative Assembly who are found to be positive will have to stay in Quarantine for at least five days.
