Guwahati: The mastermind of Assam Police recruitment exam paper leak scam and retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) PK Dutta was brought to Guwahati on Wednesday.
The West Bengal police arrested the former DIG on Tuesday near the Nepal border on the basis of the lookout notice. A team of Assam Police led by Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police reached West Bengal on Tuesday to bring Dutt.
PK Dutta was arrested by the West Bengal Police on the basis of a lookout notice issued by the Assam Police’s CID. Dutta’s son and son-in-law were with him at the time of his arrest.
The Kokrajhar police on Tuesday night handed over Datta to a team from Guwahati led by Additional Director General of Police GP Singh. Last night, another team took Datta from Kokrajhar and reached CID headquarters Wednesday morning.
DIG’s corona and other medical examination
The former DIG was rushed to MMC Hospital Wednesday morning for Covid-19 and other medical tests. He was supposed to be produced in court today where the CID would appeal for his detention.
Dutta was absconding ever since the scandal surfaced and it was being speculated that he might flee to Nepal, where his son-in-law runs a business.
Dutta is one of the main accused in the September 22 scam of leaking examination question papers for the recruitment of warden in the state police. However, the trial was later postponed and is now scheduled for November.
A total of 20 accused, including another mastermind Bharatiya Janata Party leader Diban Deka, and some examinees have been arrested in this case. CID, Guwahati Police Crime Branch and some other district police have registered separate cases in this regard.
