Srinagar: Three militants and a woman, including an officer, were killed and 2 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, including an officer, were injured in an armed clash in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
A spokesman of the Jammu and Kashmir Police said that three unidentified terrorists were killed in the encounter in Batamaloo area on Thursday morning.
However, sources said that Kausar, a 45-year-old local woman, has died in a shootout between the two sides. Simultaneously, two CRPF personnel, including an officer, have been injured and admitted to a military hospital for treatment.
Official sources said that after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in Firdaus Abad of Batamalu, the police and CRPF cordoned off the area at around 3 AM on Thursday and launched a search operation.
Sources said that after the siege of the suspected location, an encounter took place between the two sides in which three militants were killed.
A 45-year-old woman, Kausar Jaan, was seriously injured in the firing between the two, sources said. Although she was taken to the hospital, where she could not recover. It is reported that she lost her life.
According to the sources, a large contingent of security forces has been deployed in the area to prevent any protests.
