Godse trends on Twitter, nezitens call it act of IT Cell, some link Godse with Congress

Point is that People are more interested in either being pro-Gandhi or pro-Godse. Though a larger point should be, why actually every effort was put “but not to save Gandhi”. Point is, while RSS was accused of Godse being an ex, but not Congress though he was as ex-Congress too.

New Delhi: The day when India was celebrating 151st birth anniversary of the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi, his assassin, Nathuram Godse, was on Friday trending on Twitter. However, on the other hand, netizens, including some celebrities term this ‘twitter trend’ as an act of IT Cell.

Film actor Shruti Seth took on the microblogging site Twitter and expressed here views on this trend by saying “Even if the IT cell trends Godse on Twitter, it still remains #MahatmaGandhijayanti in the hearts and the memories of all Indian citizens. And those you can’t buy off thankfully.”

Noted journalist Saba Naqvi said, “I wake up on #GandhiJayanti to find Nathuram Godse Zindabad trending on top. A face of New India.”

It is said that more than one lakh tweets were posted on social media trending hashtag like #NathuramZindabad. On the other hand, political leaders, including those belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated the day by commemorating the ‘father of nation’.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath released a video message spinning the Charkha at Kshetriya Shri Gandhi Ashram in Hazratganj on Gandhi’s birth anniversary. This too has to face sarcasm from netizens. One netizen posted the video report with a sarcastic comment muh mein ram ram bagal mein churi (Speak praise on the face and stab him from behind). The Twitterati further said, “Staunch supporter of Godse trying hard to imitate Mahatma.”

On January 30, 1948,  Godse had fired three bullets at Mahatma Gandhi from point range in New Delhi after a prayer meeting. Godse believed that Gandhi favoured the demands of Muslims during the partition. He was hanged to death in the Ambala Central Jail on November 15, 1949.

As the BJP ruled Uttar Pradesh has recently seen various violence and rape incidents, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his government have faced backlash on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

One Twitterati has even gone on to say, “If Nathuram Godse were alive today, he would be Adityanath. And bhakts (followers) all over the country would have been so proud of him. Friday was not the first time when Godse’s name flashed on social media. In 2019, a similar trend was observed when “#GodseAmarRahe (Long live Godse)” went viral on social media.

I will never be able to forgive Pragya Thakur for insulting Mahatma Gandhi.”

~~ Prime Minister Narendra Modi

In 2019, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, a Member of Parliament from Bhopal, called Godse a patriot but later apologized after facing severe backlash across the party spectrum. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, criticising Pragya’s comments, had said, “I will never be able to forgive Pragya Thakur for insulting Mahatma Gandhi.”

Godse’s name had also flashed on social media last year when a similar trend was witnessed. #GodseAmarRahe (Long live Godse)” went viral on social media. A similar reaction had also been seen at that time.

Though Godse is widely linked with RSS and (by some) BJP, one netizen reminds the people of his association with Congress. The Twitterati says, “Point is that People are more interested in either being pro-Gandhi or pro-Godse. Though larger point should be, why actually every effort was put “but not to save Gandhi”. Point is, while RSS was accused of Godse being an ex, but not Congress though he was as ex-Cong too.”
