Militant killed in Pulwama encounter, operation is underway
A large-scale search operation has been launched in the south Kashmir area of Pulwama district to find the militants
Srinagar: A police spokesman said that security forces killed a militant killed in an encounter today. The encounter took place in Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
The police spokesperson said that the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a CASO in the wee hours after a tip-off about the presence of militants. The operation was launched at village Maghama, Tral, in Pulwama district.
Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed in nearby areas to prevent any demonstration. When militants hiding there opened fire, the security forces sealed all the exit points and started house-to-house searches.
Militants opened fire on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan and snatched his service rifle from him in Wadipora Chadoora in central Budgam district on Thursday morning.
Official sources said that militants riding on motorcycles indiscriminately opened fire on 117 Battalion CRPF personnel in Wadipora Chadoora around 5.30 am on Thursday.
He said an assistant sub-inspector of the CRPF was injured first in the attack and was rushed to a military hospital in Srinagar.
Sources said that the militants attacked the CRPF officer leaving him inured and snatched his service rifle from him. He added that a large-scale search operation has been launched in the area to find the attackers.
Security forces also retaliated killing an unidentified militant. The operation is underway till the reports last came in.
