Modi arrives Kolkata, aerial survey of Amphan hit areas with Mamta
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived Kolkata around an carried out an aerial survey along with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The two leaders are also scheduled to hold an administrative meeting in Bashirhat in the evening before Mr. Modi flies out to Bhubaneswar in the afternoon.
New Delhi/Kolkata/Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived Kolkata today morning to assess the situation caused by the devastating hurricane ‘Amphan’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made an aerial survey today at Amphan hit areas of West Bengal. 72 people have been killed so far and millions have become homeless in this cyclone. Large affected areas are yet to be accessed for relief operations.

“The PM will travel to West Bengal and Odisha to take stock of the situation in the wake of Cyclone Amphan,” a PMO office Tweeter said. “He ( PM) will conduct aerial surveys and take part in review meetings, where aspects of relief and rehabilitation will be discussed,” it added.

The PM’s aircraft landed around 1030 hours at the Dum Dum airport, which has also suffered extensive damage by the super cyclone, which battered the state for about 4 hours with a wind-speed of nearly 150 kms per hours on Wednesday evening. After landing at Dum Dum airport, the prime minister accompanied by the Chief Minister Ms. Banerjee.
They will board a defense helicopter and make an aerial survey of the South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas, the worst affected districts after this city. A special administrative meeting will also be held at Basirhat in North 24 Parganas district where both the prime minister and the chief minister would take part with the concerned administrations. The prime minister is visiting the state after Ms. Banerjee urged Mr Modi to come and to review the situation. Mr. Modi will also discuss relief and rehabilitation measures with the CMs of both states.
