Piyush Goyal given additional charge of Paswan’s ministry
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has been given additional charge of the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs, on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi
New Delhi: Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has been given additional charge of ministry after the demise of Ram Vilas Paswan. Official sources said on Friday that on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Goyal has been given additional charge of the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs.
Ram Vilas Paswan died on Thursday night. He was 74. The Union minister was admitted to the Escort Hospital in the capital for a few days. Mr. Paswan recently underwent a heart operation. Prior to this, many of his illnesses were being treated abroad.
Mr. Paswan was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969 at an early age. Prior to entering politics, he was appointed Deputy Superintendent of Bihar Police Service. He chose politics to serve people rather than police jobs.
Mr. Paswan held the portfolios of railways, hospitals, coal, telecommunications and food and consumer affairs at the center.
In 2014, he was made the Minister of Food and Consumer Affairs in the Narendra Modi government at the Center and since then he was holding the responsibility of this ministry.
