New Delhi: The All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF), the top body of railway employees, has warned that the government should issue a bonus order by 21 October, failing which a massive countrywide protest would be stage by blocking railway traffic on 22 October.
AIRF general secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra said on Saturday that a virtual meeting of the standing committee of the Federation was held yesterday.
The president of the Federation, Dr. N Kanniah this meeting chaired by N Kanniah, it was said that the work-productivity bonus used to announce every year before Navratri. There is a lot of anger among the railway employees for not doing so this year.
Mr. Mishra said that during the Covid-19 epidemic, railway employees worked fearlessly day and night. Despite this, the government is ignoring their legitimate demand. The Railway Board has sent the bonus file to the Finance Ministry, but the Finance Ministry is not approving it.

He warned that from 22 October the organisation would start its action if the bonus order is not issued by 20 October. The participants in the meeting also expressed anger over the government’s “anti-labour policies“.
There was also discussion on privatisation, outsourcing and corporatisation, restoration of old pension scheme and release of dearness allowance in railways.
Mr. Mishra said that the railway employees cooperated with full dedication in transporting workers to their home states and ensuring medical supplies, but the government is taking advantage of the situation of Covid-19 towards privatising train operations and stopping dearness allowance (DA).
He said that employees are not responsible for the plight of the railways and, hence, their dearness allowance should be increased as per rules.
