Trains to run on electricity up to Jalpaiguri, good start to be with Brahmaputra Mail
Trains are set to run from Delhi to Jalpaiguri by electric locomotives. It is to be started with Brahmaputra Mail. This will save Rs 20.4 crore annually.
New Delhi: The Brahmaputra Mail from Delhi to Dibrugarh in Assam will now run on an electric locomotive to Jalpaiguri. The change will save Indian Railways from the expense of more than Rs 20 crore annually.
A railway official said that the Brahmaputra Mail will now run to Jalpaiguri in West Bengal with electricity. As of now, trains would run with an electric engine from Delhi to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction in Uttar Pradesh only. Then, it was taken to Dibrugarh by a diesel engine.
The official said that due to rapid electrification of rail routes, the entire railway line up to Mughal Sarai and Jalpaiguri has become electrified. Therefore, it has now been decided that trains will run from Delhi to Jalpaiguri by electric locomotives. It is to be started with Brahmaputra Mail. This will save Rs 20.4 crore annually.
