Notice to Center on Petition for Development of Online Profile Verification System
The petition filed in the Supreme Court has sought verification of all online profiles to curb the trend of posting objectionable content on social media.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Center on a petition seeking directions to develop an online profile verification system to curb the trend of posting objectionable content on social media.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Sharad Arvind Bobade issued notice during the hearing of a petition filed by two law students of Bharti Vidyapeeth Deemed University of Pune – Skand Bajpayee and Abhuday Mishra and sought a reply from the Central Government.
The petition filed on behalf of the students has demanded to verify all the profiles so that the illegal and incorrect posts can be removed. The petitioners have also requested the court to direct action against the account holders involved in the business of pornography.
Petitioners say that such people post obscene material through false profiles, not only that but also do banking frauds.
