Angela Merkel calls for changes in UN Security Council
Angela Merkel said, ‘the United Nations needs to make changes as per the challenges of the 21st century.’
Berlin: Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel has called for a change in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) keeping in mind the global challenges.
Addressing the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Mrs. Angela said, ‘The United Nations needs to make changes related to the challenges of the 21st century.’ She stressed that individual member countries can cause trouble during the proper functioning of the United Nations system.
Chancellor Merkel said, ‘We share each other’s problems and in the same way we share each other’s troubles. We are one world.’ Meanwhile, she also repeated the Germany’s claim on UNSC saying that Germany is ready to take any responsibility in the Security Council.
It is noteworthy that Germany, Belgium, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Indonesia, Niger, South Africa, Tunisia, Vietnam and St.Vincent and the Grenadines are currently UNSC temporary members while Russia, China, France, USA and UK are permanent members of UNSC.
