Attempt to form a group of OIC ambassadors to United Nations on Islamophobia foiled
Maldives and the UAE have thwarted Pakistan’s efforts to form an unconventional group of OIC ambassadors to the United Nations on Islamophobia.
New Delhi: An attempt by Pakistan to form an unconventional group of OIC ambassadors on Islamophobia at the United Nations was foiled. The attempt was to target India amid reports that there was another plot like the one in Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir to be carried out. The attempt to form this group was thwarted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Maldives.
According to a report published in Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, the UAE and the Maldives did not support Pakistan’s move saying that only foreign ministers could form such a group. They refused to support any action against India, saying it was harmful and would create only religious disharmony in the region.
It is to be noted that security forces in Pulwama district of south Kashmir recovered about 45 kg of powerful explosives from a vehicle recently (on Wednesday night) and thwarted the attack of Jaish-e-Muhammad and Hizbul-Mujahideen. Police, Central Reserve Police Force, and Army’s precautionary and timely action foiled the attack. The terrorists were planning an attack on security forces on February 14, 2019.
