Trump urges Iran not to execute young wrestler Navid Afkarai

Washington: US President Donald Trump has urged Iran not to award capital punishment to the young wrestling star Navid Afkarai for participating in anti-government protests.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump tweeted, “Hearing that Iran is looking to execute a great and popular wrestling star, 27-year-old Navid Afkarai, whose sole act was an anti-government demonstration on the streets. They were protesting the “country’s worsening economic situation and inflation”…

In another tweet, of thread he added,”…To the leaders of Iran, I would greatly appreciate if you would spare this young man’s life, and not execute him. Thank you!”

He said in a public appeal that the life of Iran’s young wrestling star Navid Afkarai should be spared. Mr. Afkarai and other protesters were reacting only to deteriorating economic conditions in Iran. ‘They were opposing the deteriorating economic situation and inflation in the country’, he added.
